Q

Does each item within a category have to have a specific number of points?

I have 5 journal assignments in the gradebook. Students will receive 20 points for each assignment done correctly. Then in the gradebook this assignment is weighted at 15% of the total grade. Does it matter that I have each assignment worth 20 points? Should I make them worth 100? Would that make more sense to the student?

Answer

Not if gradebook has been setup by weighted mean of grades. Gradebook should be set up as “weighted mean of grades”(which is the setting your gradebook should have for a percentage-based system) and all 5 journals within the “Journal Category” will be weighted evenly.
